Three Gorges, China

Located in Western China is the beautiful Three Gorges river. The Three Gorges river is one of China's largest and most important rivers. The river has been recognized for thousands of years as a great source of power and commerce. The area also has a long and rich history of human settlement. In the 1930s, during his time in office, Chinese president Sun Yat-Sen was determined to learn from past mistakes in order to move China into the future. He wanted to improve China's cities and infrastructure by harnessing the power of the river. The construction of the Three Gorges Dam was finished in 2008.
